Patience is not about how long someone can wait... It's about how well they behave while they wait.

Yuuuuuumm

Part of our celebration for Memorial day was eating... and eating... and eating again. I didn't think about fat or cholesterol today. And it was gooood!

There were omelets for breakfast. Fried mozzarella sticks for lunch, and a big grilled dinner.

The mozzarella sticks were a recipe I had not tried before and highly recommend. It is from The Pioneer Woman and you can find it on her Tasty Kitchen website here.

So kids, what do you think of homemade fried cheese?

I think they like it. We all did. It was better than any mozzarella sticks we have ever had, anywhere. It's not something you should have a lot, but when you do, definitely make these instead of paying too much for them at a restaurant or buying the premade frozen ones.... they just don't compare.

I don't have any pictures from dinner, but oh man it was wonderful. I tried a new marinade that I also found at the Tasty Kitchen website, and it totally lived up to the hype I read there. I followed the ingredients exactly even though the dried mustard had me a bit worried. Both David and Randa can't stand mustard. But you could not tell there was mustard in it, and everyone loved it. We marinated steaks with it for several hours. I really want to try it on chicken next.

Please try this recipe, you won't be sorry: Firehall Steak Marinade.

Happy Memorial Day

God Bless those who have served and are serving our great country.

We are so very thankful to not be separated by deployments anymore.

Chuck it?

David: "Kids! I have a job for you.... go out on the deck, and shuck the corn."

Randa: "Chuck it?"

David: "Shuck it."

Randa: "You mean just chuck it out there?" pointing to the field.

David: /facepalm

May flowers

The little apple tree we recently planted has blossomed.

These little white flowers popped up here and there around the yard.

And now the weatherman is saying there is a freeze warning coming up. doh!

Pond

David lined the pond and we added some fish. I meant to get pics posted earlier... but you know how it is.

Persistence

The birds who had a nest at our back door in the past have come "home" to discover that their old digs were gone. David had disposed of the old nest last fall after the birds were gone. When he saw that they had built a new one, he knocked it down. Then a couple of days later he noticed they had built another one... so he knocked that down too. Then a day later, (yesterday), another.

And.... today.....

There was a boy....

Ok, technically there still is a boy... named Aaron, who is a good friend of Randa's and an 8th grader. They ride the same bus, and today after school he 'came a callin'.

Myranda and Ben waited out at the end of the driveway.

I was too slow with the camera when he arrived, and then I didn't want to embarrass Myranda by flashing pictures in his face, but when it was time for him to head home, David got some stealth shots.... Yes, he rode his dirt bike here by himself. He lives about a ten- fifteen minute drive away.

Sooo, there it is. The first "Gentleman caller"... I don't know how this happened. But it does ease my mind to remember that after cookies and soda the three kids had a loud fun time building a cardboard box fort in Ben's room and playing catch outside. So, maybe, just maybe I still have my little girl for a little longer.

Serenity

The kids were sitting out by the pond, just chatting. I wonder what they were talking about.

Maybe the goldfish we put in were part of the conversation.
